"Rīgas satiksme" reminds of the need to "HOLD ON" in public transport
The reason for the campaign can be easily found in the statistics of "Rīgas satiksme": 127 cases of passengers falling in public transport were reported in 2010, whereas the 10-month balance of such cases in 2011 has already reached 158. Most such cases are reported in buses – 78 in ten months of this year (70 in the whole year 2010), fewer are reported in trams – 41 (12 in 2010) and trolleybuses – 39 (45 in 2010).
Most public transport routes run in roads of general use and make part of the common transport flow, which inevitably leads to various road accidents. The main function of "Rīgas satiksme" public transport drivers is to provide a safe transportation of passengers, yet various external factors (a child suddenly running out into the street, unsuccessful move of another vehicle) may lead to hard breaking, which, in turn, may cause passengers to fall. The only way to avoid it is to hold on!
To relieve psychological tension following road accidents, in August this year "Rīgas satiksme" launched a special Support programme, with certified psychologists from crises centre "Skalbes" providing psychological support by phone not only to passengers having suffered in accidents, but also to public transport drivers.
